"It's an "Heirloom Party"...

I decided to Join Marie @ Emma's Heirloom Party. Sounded like fun.. I really don't have a lot of heirlooms. I guess our Families didn't do that.. (Or someone else got all of those prized possessions! ha!) I do have some things I thought of that are "Treasures" to me..

My "Family" is my most prized possession and they are the greatest gift that I have.

The funny thing is that I collect old treasures from total strangers now.. I love "History".. I love Journals, old Pictures, old knick knacks, old books, I guess I really do appreciate History.. I also appreciate the sacrifice other's made for me.. I am not sure if I will have expensive heirlooms to leave my children.. I do know that I have written in Journals for years and have scrapbooks I have made that tell some History of our lives.. Also my Art will tell something about me too..

This is an Old German Tapestry given to me by my Mother in Law.. It is old and hanging now in my bedroom.. I love it..

These are my Great Grandmother Emily King's Glasses and Glass Holder.. I am sure they are at least 100 years old or so.. They are special to me because she raised my Mother and made a good life for her.. My fourth oldest daughter is named after her. I gave her, Grandmother King's name for Jenni's Middle name. It is the only thing I really have from my Mother's side of the Family.

This is a lamp my Mother in law gave me that belonged to her Mother in Law. The lamp had broke but, I still love it and it is in my bedroom. I may fix it someday.(Sorry, I don't know what happened to my picture but, you can click on the square and.. voila.. it appears in a big format!)

This Paper belonged to my Father in Law and after he died my Hubby was given a bunch of paper stuff.. I think it is a great remembrance of that day.

This is "Me" when I was about 9 years old.. Christmas time and this was my first real "Pricey" doll that I got from Santa.. (O.k... it is the 70's!!!)

I still have this doll dated from 1963.. It is really the only thing left I had as a child.

Oh.. how I loved records.. We still have lots of records but, no phonograph.. My kids get a big kick out of these... I have fond memories of listening and dancing and singing to these records. (That really outdates me!!)

My Mother made us scrapbooks.. Not like we have today.. I am still grateful she kept all our special school art and pictures.. I now love to document my children's lives through artful scrapbooking.

What an Artist!!

I really loved to draw.. Get a load of this.. "The Beatles!"

These are special to me because they document my Families history.. My Mother, Ramona is no longer living. She died in 1991. I am grateful my Father who wrote about her life.. Also my Dad, Calvin, who is 83 and still alive, wrote about his life in World War II in Germany. The other book is about my Father, Calvin's, Mother.. "Blanche" and her Family line of History.. I forgot to get a picture of my "MANY" journals.. oh well.. Another time..

I hope you enjoyed seeing some of my Treasured Heirlooms.. Have a lovely Weekend.

Can you imagine what a treasure your journals will be to someone in your family years down the road?!? Hopefully they will continue to get passed down through the generations, just think how the times will change, and how neat it will be for someone to go back and read your entries??

Now I would say that all those wonderful things are heirlooms! The best kind that come with stories AND you have journals and things written down! It doesn't get any better than that. Your children will be so lucky when they get older to read your journals. Thank you for sharing your treasures and have a beautiful weekend.

What fun to see your treasures! It's always neat to see what people do with things that are precious to them. Dee Dee H. has a wonderful display of her childrens baby clothes with pictures of her kids in them. I thought that was a terrific idea.

Hello Caleen - thank you for joining the party! I love your inspirational words about preserving our heritage through journaling and scrapbooking with pictures and drawings. There's something extra special about seeing someone's handwriting and reading their personal feelings! I admire you for the time you've taken to keep this tradition going for your family! Love your sweet doll - she's very 70's! And your records too. I loved records also. Remember getting a record player when I was 6 (1972) - my favorite record was "The Bremman Town Musicians" LOL. I can still hear the sweet music. Good times.

Blessings,
Marie

Thanks for sharing these treasures! The glasses are great (the case is so unique too!) I also enjoyed seeing the drawings and records. I loved records as a little girl and would fall asleep listening to them at night.

Everything you showed was certainly a treasure. Some of my "treasures" included similar things like my Smokey the Bear teddy bear I got when I was four, a necklace from my grandmother, a vase from my aunt (both of who passed away). They don't have to be valuable in $, they are valuable because they were loved by the family that came before me. Thanks so much for sharing this.

Happy Heirloom Party! I am running late for the party but I am so glad to be here now. I love your party post. So sweet! And it's wonderful that you are keeping journals. My Aunt just pulled one of my grandmother's old jewelry boxes out of storage and her and my mom finally went through it. I pulled out some stuff they didn't want for you. Nothing great, but a few of the pieces I thought you might like for your crafty stuff. Anything you don't want you can chuck. I'll try and get it to you soon!
