"Thrift/Treasures on "Tuesday"!!!!

Today is "THRIFTY/TREASURES.....on "Tuesday"!!! I am going to show my fun "TREASURES" and tell you a little about them... This first Painting is by Cherry Jeffe Huldah . I bought it at thrift store for a few dollars. This is what I learned about her:

"Huldah Cherry was was born in Dallas Texas in 1901. She studied at the Art Student's League and Grand Central School in New York City. She was also taught by Robert Brackman.Huldah began her career in the 1940s. From 1934-1949 she was represented by the noted New York art dealer and collector, Howard Young. In the 1950s, the Charles Lock Galleries of New York also exhibited her work. In 1975 Wally Findlay Galleries in New York presented her first one-woman show.
Four of her works were purchased by the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. Her paintings have been reproduced by the New York Graphics Society since 1946 and by Hallmark cards since 1953.Huldah has had her paintings selected for the Grand Salon of the Salon des Artisted Francais in Paris. She won Honorable Mention awards on the Salons of 1948 and 1967.For her subject matter, she focused on turn-of-the-century women and adolescent girls. Her young ladies are costumed in the fashionable attire of the period, and her style hints of impressionism with a strong Renoir influence. Inspired by a period known as La Belle Epoque, Huldah's designs were incorporated into thirty-one collectible porcelain works of art which were created between 1959 and 1968 and distributed into the 1980s.She is listed in "Who's Who in American Art", "Who's Who of American Women" and the "World Who's Who of Women".In addition to museums, her paintings are in the collections of the Cornell Medical Center, and in the Los Angeles Athletic Club. And in 1998 the national Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington DC recognized Huldah and has included her work on their permanent collection." These 2 paintings were by Cydney Grossman born 1909 in New York City.. An American Painter that was known for painting, Circus Clowns and Circus Scenes and Ballerinas... I couldn't find any more information about this painter.. I bought these prints for a few dollars.. They are not the originals but, are at least 60 years old or so..

When I was about 10 years old, my Mother decided my Sister, Janine and I needed to have our room decorated.. Most of our furniture at that time was mostly old stuff.. We were really excited to finally have a "Pretty Room". We had the 70's shag carpet with the gold, yellow, green and orange colors.. Needless to say that what was "In Style" and we loved it..

My Mom purchased the white French desk with chair and white Dresser.. We had Gold drapes
and big round orange lights above each twin bed..
My Mother found a picture to go in our Room.. It was two girls at the "opera" and looked "French"..

When you looked at one of the Girl's in the picture.. It seemed her "Eyes" would move wherever
you were looking at her.. I was "Scared" of that picture.. HA.... It was a beautiful painting.. I would love to find it now but, have been unsuccessful...

These paintings remind me of that "Painting" in our room as young Girl's..
I hope you have enjoyed seeing my "THRIFTY/TREASURES" and a little information about the
Painter's...

"Celebration for Peter" ... "Decorations"!

Happy Birthday Peter!! Our Celebration held at my Sister, Janine's House ...
My 3 Brother's ... Peter, Kirk and Rolf...

I made a Banner that said "Happy 60th Peter!!!

I made this Collage with some Pictures I got from my Dad.. I didn't have a lot of pictures but, tried to put something together for him...

Every "King" needs a crown and Peter deserves a crown because he
is 60 years old!! He was a good sport to wear the crown the whole time... We had a barbeque at my Sister, Janine's home. It was very hot but, some were smart and actually
swam.. It was fun to celebrate my Brother.. He entertained us with some musical numbers and we asked questions about his Life.. It was nice to be together and spend a few hours Celebrating !
My sister put noise makers, toys and candy on the tables.. It was fun to act like
a "Kid" for awhile. My Sister, worked real hard and was very helpful.. We ate food, had cake and ice cream and visited..
It was a nice time and I
am glad that we did something for our Brother, Peter.. Happy Birthday Peter.. We Love You!!

This is a badge I made for Peter!

This is a book I altered for Peter.. We put it out on the table for everyone
to write something to him... (Sorry for the blurry picture..maybe, I should have my glasses on when I take a picture! HA!!)

"Appreciating the "Fruits" of the Earth!"

Generally, appreciation means some blend of thankfulness, admiration, approval, and gratitude. In the financial world, something that "appreciates" grows in value. With the power tool of appreciation, you get the benefit of both perspectives: as you learn to be consistently thankful and approving, your life will grow in value. (Lucy MacDonald.typepad)

I always had fresh fruits and Vegatables as a kid growing up. My Father used a lot of our yard to plant Trees : Oranges, Lemons, guaves, papayas, berries, strawberries, apples.. Vegetables:
Lettuce, Beans, Onions, Squash, peppers, carrots, rhubarb, brocolli, cabbage, tomatoes...
I enjoyed picking from our garden that was always plentiful.. I don't think I really appreciated it then.. Just thought everyone had a garden.. It was lots of work but, the exciting part was the benefit it gave to all of us.

My Father still has a garden and has given our Family lots of fresh produce throughout our life. At times we have had our own garden and my children have enjoyed the Harvest..

I am grateful for the Bounties of the Earth and appreciate the Gifts our Father in Heaven has
given us.. We have a small area but, we are thinking we should do a small garden.. I know it takes work and labor and time yet, the benefits of a Garden our worth it..

Do you have a Garden???? What do you enjoy about it???? Have a great weekend..

"What's Cooking??? Dyeing Lace... Without the Tea !

This is 7 Gypsies crystal die.. I use it for paper projects and thought I would try it out on my old lace... I didn't use tea this time because I didn't have any.. I have used it before for dyeing and it works great..

This is an old white lace tablecloth that was aged and old.. And I am using it for something else! All about "Reuse" "Repurpose"!

What's in the Pot??? You guessed.. I am dyeing the white Lace..

I am so glad my family didn't taste this concoction !! I had it sit in this pot for a few days.. My Family thought I was a little crazy!!

Hey... I'm back!! I couldn't wait any longer.. I missed you all!!

So.. here are a few fun articles to check out about Tea Staining..

How to Dye Cotton Doilies Using Tea
By Jonae Fredericks, eHow Editor

If your white cotton doilies are in need of a change, or show signs of yellowing that you are finding difficult to remove, dying them with tea may be the solution. Instead of throwing away the cotton doilies, you can breathe new life into them by dipping them in a tea solution. This treatment will deepen their color and give them a beautiful new beige tone, or even a color as deep as caramel. Even if you have decided to go with a new antique look to your décor, there is no need to replace your existing cotton doilies when you can color them with tea.

Later.. I will show you what I plan to do with this lace.. Stay Tuned :)

""Changing what I can!!"

"And finally, I want to acknowledge that making changes in your life is never an easy task. The key, however, is not to get caught up in the distance you have to go to get to where you want to be. Nor should you despair over the amount of control you have over your circumstances. Progress is made in the small, intentional steps, and chances are, you have more power than you think. By focusing on little steps you can take every day, the progress you make will motivate you to continue your journey, and eventually, you can go wherever you want to go. The important thing is simply to begin." (Stephen Cherniske, M.S) (Lucy MacDonald.typepad.com)

Hi.. I am going to take some time off from blogging.. I will visit all of you but, not sure I will post. I have some things on my mind and heart.. It is not time to post for a while. School is almost out in another week. I am ready for Summer. I have a great life and I am very blessed. I will not be gone for long.. Just a little break needed.. Take care Friends! Caleen
